Follow Up
I was walking to see the movie "Australia" and ran into the two guys that made "The Fine Line" avalanche movie. They were super nice, I told them how much I was simultaneously enthralled and horrified by their film, and then I scurried off to see "Australia" before I realized I was 30 minutes early--just enough time to swing by 221 and sip on a delicious glass of Rhone with Simon (who is from Australia and told me how nuts the opening night was when he was home in Sydney over off-season) and Brent. The movie met my expectations perfectly: it was sweeping, melodramatic, unapologetically hokey and at moments utterly reminiscent of "Pirates of the Caribbean." Lots and lots and lots of Nicole Kidman's mask-like face showing breathy angst and outrage, or at least as much as it could, given the fact that her skin seems somehow...immobile. The little Nugget Theater was packed, showing this movie for only one night, and I squoze into my seat with a kid's size popcorn, "butter" distributed midway and then again on top, sprinkled my Milk Duds hither and yon and allowed the warmth of the palm oils to soften those caramely nuggets enough to adhere the popcorns to them. I was definitely in the mood to sit in the dark and be entertained. I left 3 hours later, greasy fingers and all and trudged home in rain! In January.
