I ended up going to Montrose, taking JC's '67 lemon yellow volvo (which he somewhat reluctantly let me drive for a whole bunch of reasons, the reluctance part, that is, partly because it is a bit tricky to maneuver, with the fussy second gear and the slow leaks in the driver's side tires, partly because no one else has ever driven it except for him since it was given to him by his former boss and owner of BONE (Back of Nowhere Engineering) Construction, Chuck Kroger), and found myself pulling into the tanning salon with the emergency brake on!!! Yes, 90 minutes in an antique car with the brake on. The whole drive. And no, I couldn't feel it.
So anyway, I stocked up on hopefully enough food to last me through most of April, resupplying fresh stuff here and there in town, and cruised back into the mountains, brakeless, where I was greeted by JC and his kids, Marcella and Anthony, running up to the car happy and excited to hear about my driving adventure. I had texted them saying I was headed to the racetrack to give her a spin, which Anthony found enthralling, and made mention to JC that I had driven "a short distance" with the E-brake on. I snuck a quick cat nap in while they went to dye Easter eggs at a friend's house. This is our first weekend of me coming around when he has the kids and after an initial gulp it all went swimmingly, to quote Jane.
Earth Hour last night, right? Turn off your lights and turn on your candles. Think we'll see a baby boom in 9 months?
I am headed into town to get some parchment paper, making some carrot oatmeal cookies this morning that promise to taste somewhere in between a coconut macaroon and carrot cake--YUMMO! Since it is Sunday I am having my allowable cup of coffee and as it is just now kicking in, I think I will venture forth and start my day...
