Thursday, December 29

Is it already Thursday?  Why am I harboring the fantasy that days starting after December will slip by more slowly?

It is treacherous out there.  The little snow that we have received is wearing thin, revealing rocks, pebbles, stumps, twigs, branches and little tree-tops that are breaking bones and tearing ligaments to friends and visitors alike.

Yes, we have more snow than almost all other resorts in Colorado and no, it's not enough.  I am happy we have been so motivated for the past month, because although it hasn't been great skiing conditions, it has been better than now.  I am close to 20 days since the opening of the season and have seen huge improvements in strength and ability.  The crowds here are intense right now.  AT & T cannot handle the influx of usage right now in the valley and lots of folks are finding their phone service spotty or useless.  The gondola line from the Mountain Village into town at 5 o'clock is shocking.  But all in all, it is great for our community to have these 2 weeks of business.

JC has had a great week skiing with Frances, picking their way down Dynamo and Little Rose, taking the exact same turns every time to avoid lurking debris, Little Rose has been loving her art camp class at the Ah Haa school, and evenings are peaceful and revolve around food and reading.  Frances got a great book from my parents that he cannot put down and nothing could make me happier than seeing the kids enjoying the quiet engagement of a delightful read.   Rose has a new lap desk with tons of art supplies and spends an equal amount of time drawing and painting and covering our fridge with her artwork.

Yoga tonight, not sure what poses I will teach but I think my theme will involve the concept of living your truth.

I have recently been seeing an acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner for some help with my lazy thyroid and my homework was to watch "Cabaret" with Liza Minnelli.  Funny how you can read the plot description on the movie sleeve and think, huh, don't think I really want to watch a 1972 story about a British scribe and a flamboyant entertainer in prewar Berlin who "doggedly maintain their facades as the world outside the cabaret prepares for war."  Can I take a bubble bath instead?

When, if you dig a little deeper, see that the movie is about people having (or not having) the courage to find - and live- the truth of who they are.  Now THAT is worth carving some time out of my life for.  How does that relate to a gland in my throat that is in poor health?  Tune in tomorrow....

I have to make some oatmeal and get to work.
