Saturday, January 28

It is cold this morning, -10 or so.

We have decided to honor Little Rose's lost Purple Puffy by skiing all the runs that start with the letter "P", eating pancakes and paninis for breakfast, peanut butter sandwiches for lunch, cutting up a pineapple for dessert tonight, working on a puzzle in our spare time, and using Frances' new pack... you get the idea.

Last night we strolled into town for steamers and mochas at the Bean, stopping to buy Frances a new backcountry pack because his old one got swiped from the top of Gold Hill over the Christmas holidays.  Always a bit painful to put down that kind of money for anything, ($120) but he will get years of use out of it and now that we have more snow the hike-to terrain is open and he will be strapping his skis on his pack and taking water and sandwiches and snacks more often.

There was a sale on key limes at the store so I am making some little tartlets tonight, I will let you know how they turn out.

Oh, and Sister gave us a demented puzzle for Christmas, which we are chipping away at:

JC is still in disbelief that a man had produced this work of art, yet the signature clearly reads "Steve."  I like how the flaming fairy is beaming a shaft of light through the unicorn's heart that penetrates all the way to his quivering loins.

Yesterday we woke up to 7" of new snow and it was one of those days that makes you happy to live in a ski town.  Weekday powder days are always fantastic - no crowds, no hype, no hooting and hollering, just... quiet.  I took my lunch break at 9:30am and was greatly rewarded with every single turn.
