Sunday, January 22

Sixteen inches in 24 hours!  Finally.  Is this how farmers feel when it finally rains?

My work week ended peacefully, a nice backbending class on Thursday evening, mellow office day on Friday, super quiet evening at home Friday night, just reading and working on this week's crossword together until we slip into a deep slumber.

The possibility of significant snowfall was forecast for this weekend, but as watched "The Blob" (said with spooky, look-out, it's coming your way voice) on the NOAA radar, it appeared possible that we could stay on the edge and get missed.

Not so.

JC and I headed up at 10:30 to poke around the ski area and watch the storm roll in or by, not sure which it would be, and the snow was surprisingly good from the get-go.  We glided around on 1 inch of warm, glidey snow for an hour or so and then the weather continued to deteriorate while the conditions continued to ameliorate.  Very few humans and lovely snow, we skied all over until it all closed down.

I defrosted some chanterelles from last summer's foraging and we had a snack, just enough to stave off our hunger until we made it to 221 South Oak for a dinner of elk with lingonberry sasuce, twice-baked potato and asparagus at the bar.  A guest at the Klammer in early December bought each of us in the office (5) a $100 gift certificate to 221, and we figured it was as good a day as any to continue indulging.

How did my skiing go, you ask?  Swimmingly, thank you!  We are skiing together as partners, great pace, challenging but not overwhelming for me, still feeling ski synapses forming and connecting with every turn.  We cruised all over the mountain, did several blacks on 9 and just had the funnest day EVER.

Today I decided to forego yoga, which was not an easy decision, as we are committing to nailing down all the Level 2 Syllabus poses.  There are quite a few that are currently unattainble for each of us, and we decided that is our next frontier.  When I woke up and saw the totals on the ski area I decided to ski all day, JC and I doing our own thing, skiing alone, me with my ski mix and him biding his time until Gold Hill opens.

JC shoveled the sidewalks and went on down to get in powder line at 8 but I am unconvinced they can get much open by 9, so I am going to add some new songs to my ski mix and head down in an hour or so.

Looking forward to a day of music and learning and solitude (amongst the shit-show mayhem that always unfolds on big powder days).
