Sunday, February 26

Well, I did it.  I accomplished a somewhat lofty goal this weekend: Work all day Friday, go straight to yoga from 5 - 7, go back on Saturday from 9 - 12, ski from 12:30 to 4, yoga from 4:30 to 7, back to yoga this morning from 9 - 12, ski from 12:30 to 4.

The secret to my success?  Bananas, peanut butter and caffeine.  Seriously.  With those 3 ingredients it turns out I have some serious stamina.

After my Cliff Claven class assessment on Thursday, I got to step into the role of a student for 4 incredible yoga sessions with Cat:

I know, right?

I was a little surprised to find that it took me a little time to really slip back into my studentship, the better part of the class on Friday, but once I did, I couldn't get enough of it.  We followed the Joseph Campbell "Hero's Journey" in 4 parts, and got really deep into out bodies.  I got a lot out of it.

My feedback from Cat was all extremely instrumental.  I have 5 or 6 concrete objectives to work on, which is exactly what I have needed.  I am too depleted to focus on them now, but I will be spending some time writing them down and then formulating an action plan for each one.  It was a nice contrast to have taught my class, gotten the feedback, then seen it demonstrated in her teaching, so I could experience it as a student.

I got to practice with some Durango yoga friends, who are always nice to reconnect with, and some yoga friends here who seem to come out for these events.

Needless to say, I am on the couch while JC makes our steak taco dinner, and I don't anticipate moving much more than between the couch and the bed this evening.  I met up with JC and the kids on the ski area in the afternoons, and really enjoyed cruising around, making nice easy turns under the sunny blue skies.

Little Rose did some new terrain this weekend, Log Piles and Plunges and Milk Runs, all blacks.  It is a treat to watch her transform from someone who perceived herself as not wanting to do much physically, to a motivated, adventuresome, strong little athlete.  I think we are giving her an enormous gift by promoting skiing, as well as camping and hiking in the summer.  I think she is surprising herself even.

Back to work tomorrow (to rest).  We are expecting a sizeable snow on Monday night!

Oh, and Debbie, in response to your comment, the assessment is not subjective, here is the assessment that I know and have known about as the criteria.  It is how I have been assessing myself, I just need a Certified teacher to check me out, offer responses to those questions, plus any other observations that could make me a more effective teacher.  It was still super stressful and I simply did not prepare for my class well enought, nor did I manage to avoid fallling into the Stage Fright chasm.
