Wednesday, January 11

Yesterday ended up being an alright kind of day.  I skied on my lunch break and got a call from KT, who needed a sub for her class last night.  Although I had been looking forward to practicing, I was also happy to pull a class plan together and teach her regular students.  We practiced jumping from Down Dog to forward fold and had a pretty fun time of it.  I would love to bring some of her Tuesday night students into my Thursday night class.

Has anyone seen the documentary about the Donner Party that Ken Burns' brother made a while back?  One of the spooky parts of the film is where the narrator's voice says, "It continued to snow" while the camera shows snowflakes falling against a black night sky.

We have the oppostite here.  I wake up and hear that voice except it is saying, "It continues to shine."  Still no snow here in the San Juans.  Several friends are headed to Europe, which must be a nice option when the snow conditions are not optimal.  JC and I had a chat last night about how people (like us) who don't have that as an option, develop the capacity to truly make the best of situations, simply because you don't have alternatives.  Perhaps the reason why 3rd world residents seem to score the highest on the happy scale?
