Monday, February 6

Surprise snowstorm!  I guess we are in some weather pattern where a huge high-atmosphere high pressure makes a huge low-atmosphere low pressure just hang around for a while, sprinkling us with bursts of precipitation.  It was slightly torturous to not ski today but my body is tired and sore all over.

Sunday was a great day, 3 hours of yoga with Ally in the morning and skiing all afternoon on my new skis!!!!  I will get to that in a minute.  In Anusara yoga there are 3 levels of asanas, and once I sat down and really studied the poses it dawned on me that there are lots of Level 2 poses I have yet to achieve.  All of the Level I, yes, about two-thirds of the Level 2, and a smattering of Level 3, mostly in the backbending department.  And I thought, How lame is that?  I have not felt entirely confident saying that I have an advanced practice and now it is clear why.  If I can only do a portion of the Level 2 poses, doesn't that make me an Intermediate Intermediate?

So Ally I worked our way through the Level 2 poses, not getting to some of the backbends and none of the arm balances and I now have a master list of the Level 2 poses that are currently beyond my reach.  I don't really plan on doing much else until I get these down.

But back to my new skis! They are an early Valentine's Day present from JC to me, as it seems I have suddenly outgrown my first pair of Scotts.  I took them up on Sunday afternoon to get a feel for them and they are fantastic.  We decided they are like a good dog: if you let them run amok they will take you for a ride, but if you are firm with them and give them a little direction, they will start wagging their tail at you.

What a treat.  The snow was great on Sunday and I skied right to the yoga studio for a brief meeting for some office-y business stuff.  I think it is incredibly hard to manage a staff where the majority of the teachers show up for one class a week and no one ever sees each other.

JC had band practice in Ophir so I lay around on the couch and watched "Crazy Heart."  I liked it enough, at least I like the 2 actors and it is always fun to see an Oscar-winning performance.  Alcohol can seem so gross and unnecessary.  Trace back issues or challenges or problems between people and often you end up looking at a bottle.

New work week, halfway through the season.  Two more months of skiing!  Fun to think about how far I've come and how much farther I can go with 45 MORE days of skiing left on my pass.  Same for yoga.  Give me 6 months and I will say I am now ready for Level 3 poses, as Level 2 has officially been... slain.  Slewn.  Something like that.
